I'm in a State of UGH

Deep thought for this morning: I don't like my blog right now. I don't like what I've posted, how it's organized, or what I want to post. Off morning? Maybe. I think it may be more of a reflection of my life in general right now. I don't feel balanced, I don't feel organized, I don't feel like I'm in charge of my own destiny...or even my own day-to-day schedule, honestly. Most evenings I get home from work and I'm so tired that I can barely work up the energy to check my personal email, skype/phone call my husband & son, and go to bed. I'm just tired all the time and I feel like the things that need to get done (like finishing unpacking, for pete's sake - I've been here since July!) never get done because either there's something more urgent to be done or I'm just tired & lazy.

Do you ever feel like this? How do you work through it? Help :-(

  1. Ouch, Mama, I feel your pain! I just started reading your blog, and let me double-check something: You have little kids, right? You work a full-time job and then come home and parent and try to run a household too, right? No wonder you are so tired! Those are three full-time jobs you are working! You aren't lazy. At all. Get that thought out of your head right now.

Here's what I recommend: Sit down with a piece of paper and make a list of all the tasks you have to do like "Make dinner" and "go food shopping" and "fold laundry." There might be 30-40 things (or more) on your list.

Decide what really has to be done (for example, do you HAVE to make a new dinner each night or can you make a casserole Sunday night and reheat it for 3 dinners?) Figure out what the hubby can and will take on (and girl, it had better be a lot!) Figure out what tasks you can hire someone to do or barter with a friend (eg. Can you pay someone to help you unpack or get 2-3 friends to help you? Can you barter with a web design friend to update your blog to reflect how you really want it?)

Draw a diagram of a 7-day schedule. Figure out where you have pockets of time when you are not at you day job and fill them in with tasks. It usually works best to not be so specific as "7 p.m.: go grocery shop" but rather "Tuesday or Thursday evening: go grocery shop." WORK IN some wiggle room, because little crises and dramas will come up and you don't want to have your whole schedule ruined because of it.

Just knowing that you have a rough PLAN for the week will make you feel so much more in control of your week (and life in general).

Hang in there. It DOES get better!
